Nursery business based on seasonal crop species

Seedlings of seasonal crop species would always be in demand and the market is right at the doorstep of a rural nursery. Seedlings growing in a nursery require very little space and water. This technology allows the farmer to adhere to the desired date of planting, even if the field conditions are not favourable for sowing the seed. He can even start the next crop in a nursery while the previous crop is still standing in the field. Advancing the date of planting by this method, allows early harvest and better market rates for the produce. Methods have been standardised for sugarcance, cotton and pigeonpea. By growing seedlings of sugarcane, cotton or pigeonpea in plastic bags during April and May, one can avoid the crop from getting drought stressed during the hottest months of the year.
